Detailed description
Vineyards
In the best place of La Rioja´s Place Name, an spectacular meander of the Ebro River, Valpiedra´s property is found. It is one the biggest Pagos of Spain, the only one of La Rioja.
The exceptional conditions of this property derive from its microclimate and type of soil, composed by a layer of boulder and limestone which give name to the wines. These rocks keep heat and humidiity protecting and feeding the vine.
Making
The red wine Fincas de Valpiedra is just made with grapes which come from this exceptional vineyard. Fermentation takes place in stainless steal tanks with temperature under control. Maceration lasts 14 days. Ageing lasts 12 months in French and American oak barrel.
Tasting
Intense purple colour. Purple flashes of abundant, colored and dense tear.
High intensity aromas with black fruits notes and ripe sloes. A very marked mineral profile that together with notes coming from the barrel as the vanilla, spices and tobacco ones give the wine a great character. Tempranillo variety is very marked and well integrated with the barrel.
In mouth the attack is fatty and intense, long and greedy showing a great finesse. Acidity is balanced with alcohol prevailing the typical Valpiedra freshness. Long end, mineral, with memories of fine woods and great freshness.
Pairing
Casserole of vegetables and pulses, chicken soup. With regard to meat, it pairs better with white ones, turkey, suckling lamb and pig. Perfect pairing of rice with rabbit and stewed fat chicken.
