Detailed description
Vineyards
At the best place of La Rioja´s Place Name, an spectacular meander of the Ebro River, Valpiedra´s property is found. It is one the biggest Pagos of Spain, the only one of La Rioja.
The exceptional conditions of this property derive from its microclimate and type of soil, composed by a layer of boulder and limestone which give name to the wines. These rocks keep heat and humidiity protecting and feeding the vine.
Making
The red wine Fincas de Valpiedra is just made with grapes which come from this exceptional vineyard. Fermentation takes place in stainless steal tanks with temperature under control. Maceration lasts 16 days. Ageing lasts 22 months in French oak barrel. Bottling January 2011
Tasting
Cherry colour and purplish hint on the edge with high intensity.Tear is dense, abundant and dyed.
High intensity aromas with great complexity and style in aromatic nose. Highlight mineral notes and red and black fruits. Memories of incense. Everything together with fine notes of wood which come from the French oak like the vanilla, the cedar, the blond cigarette and the spices.
At the early stage of tasting, an excellent smoothness and volume are highlighted developping a tannic wafer-thin structure which makes the wine tasty. The freshness given by the graciano makes the wine more balanced with regard to the alcohol, showing an aftertaste very long with a nice end. By retronasal spicy, fruity and woody notes get back.z
Pairing
Semi-cured cheeses. Stew red meat, roast lamb and big game dishes (roe deer and chamois). Mountain dishes as highland stew or pinto beans with pork.
